Revival Style Derived from traditional southwest Indian pueblos, this style is typified by soft, organic lines and rounded parapets, vigas, latillas, nichos and bancos. |

Territorial Style Before statehood, the railroad arrived with heavy sawmill equipment. This style features stucco exteriors with sharp-edged parapet walls which are often decorated with brick coping. Windows and doors are bordered with Victorian-like detail. |

Northern New Mexico Style Early settlers resorted to pitched thatch roofs on Pueblo Style adobe homes to shed the snow. Today, pitched-roof homes are covered by modern metal raised-ridge roofing in rust reds to turquoise blues. |
Building materials you'll see in Santa Fe
Adobe is a mixture of sun-dried clay bricks, mixed with grasses for strength, and mortared with mud - an excellent insulator - adobe homes stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Although not widely used today for new construction (too expensive), the look of adobe is achieved with frame structures and stucco.
Rastra® is an alternative building material recycled polystyrene (old coffee cups) and concrete. This energy efficient material is cost effective and eco-friendly. Santa Fe homes built with this material usually have the look of an adobe home.
Straw Bales are used as an alternative to frame building, and are effective, cost efficient & design flexible, for anyone-including owner builders-to maximize straw as a building method
